Who Created God?

In our natural world it is very difficult to imagine anything that did not have a beginning or an end. Everything we can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch had a beginning, a point of creation, and will have an ending.

With this in mind it would appear to be a natural question to ask; “When was God’s beginning?” Or perhaps “Who created God?” There is no natural way to answer this question.  If God created the universe and everything in it, and man still cannot accept this true origin of matter, which he can see, how will man find the answer to the origin of the Creator, whom he cannot see?

We cannot use science to find the answer. If an idea is not testable, repeatable, observable, and falsifiable, it is not considered scientific. God or His supposed creation cannot be tested, and it is not repeatable. We cannot observe it and  therefore it is not falsifiable, meaning that we cannot use science to prove that God, or anything pertaining to Him as being false.

To answer any questions pertaining to God there is only one reliable source that we have, which is the Bible. Apart from the Bible one would be left with only speculation, theory or philosophy.  But why is the Bible a reliable source of the origin of God? How can we believe the Bible?

The Bible is a collection of historical writings and accounts, and is reliable because it was written by several eyewitnesses in full view of hundreds of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecy. No other historical document or books can make that claim, nor have that same verifiable credibility.

The Bible which is not one book, but rather a collection of 66 books which was written by 40 authors, most of whom never met each other, because these 66 books were written over a period of over 1500 years.  These books were written in three continents, Asia, Africa, and Europe, and they were written in three languages, Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic.

The Bible in every accepted translation of the New Testament have been preserved in more manuscripts than any other ancient work, having over 5,800 complete or fragmented Greek manuscripts, 10,000 Latin manuscripts and 9,300 manuscripts in various other ancient languages including Syriac, Slavic, Gothic, Ethiopic, Coptic and Armenian.

In addition there are over 25,000 archeological digs related directly to the Bible that prove its authenticity. Yet there is no discrepancy in it anywhere. No other book or collection of books can make that claim, or even come close.

If we were to look to the scriptures as a source of the origin of God, where would we start?  How about right at the beginning which is the book of “Genesis”, which means the beginning or origin. In fact the very first four words declare, “In the beginning God…” (Genesis 1:1).

This is not God’s beginning but man’s beginning.  The Bible contains God’s words to man. God is letting us know that He was the beginning of all things. The following words of that opening sentence tell us that He (God) created the heaven and the earth. As such, His origin would predate the beginning of all matter that we see.

The difficult concept for us as mere mortals to wrap our heads around is that God always was and always will be.  He is eternal and had no beginning and has no ending.

One of the questions that comes to my mind is; What was God doing with all that time before He created the heaven and the earth and created man? As though it’s all about us. God does not answer that question in His Word.  We may not be able to comprehend it if He told us.

We do know from the Bible that the angels were in existence before He ever created the heaven and the earth as well as man. We also know that God is not a man, but is Spirit.  The angels are also spirit beings that live and exist on a completely different plane or dimension than we do as mere mortals.

However the Bible says that the fool hath said in his heart, there is no God” (Psalms 14:1).

“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools.” (Romans 1:19-22).

The evidence of God and His creation is all around us. It is a work of complex perfection in all areas that we can observe.  Take just the human body alone.  All of God’s complex creation is perfect balance and symmetry. Yet an in his limited knowledge cannot create even the simplest of life forms.  He can only manipulate that which God has already created.

If God is the creator, who created all things as the Bible declares. Then for arguments sake we then assume someone or something created God, then they would have only created God and stopped. This is because the Bible declares that God created everything. Then you would have to take it to the next level and ask, “Who then created the supreme being that created God?” and so on. We should soon begin to realize how foolish the question is.

No, the Bible declares that God alone is the Creator of all things. Further God declares, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” (Revelation 22:13). If He is first then no one is before Him, and if He is last, then there is no one after Him.

God declares in the book of Isaiah,“…before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me” (Isaiah 43:10).

If someone created God then they would be a greater God.  Yet God declares,“Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any” (Isaiah 44:5-9).

Romans 1:24 doesn’t say that God is a creator, it says that He is the creator. There is only one. So the question really is,”Who created the sole creator who created all things?” The answer is obviously, no one.

No Trinity in the Bible

From the very beginning until today the “Catholic Church” believes that it has the right and the power to promote to sainthood, to change days and seasons, to add to the Word of God, to take away from the Word of God, and to change the Word of God.

CORRUPTION: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19) KJV.

The original words in Matthew 28:19 were Jesus’ own words, God Himself.  It has been proved from many sources including those in authority of the Catholic Church itself that the words of Jesus were changed to “Help the laity better understand the trinity”, a false doctrine (see resources below).

It is also important to note here that Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called the synoptic gospels. This s because they are very similar, and go over much of the same ground.  Yet neither Mark or Luke contain this corruption (see the areas of Mark 16:15 and Luke 24:47).

It is firmly believed that this verse was changed during the second or third century. What is ironic about this change is that in their ignorance of who Jesus really was and is, they actually were not successful in changing it, but rather it became a true testament of who Jesus really was and is.  They added that we were to baptized in the NAME (singular) of the FATHER, and of the SON, and of the HOLY GHOST (titles and not names).  That singular name is JESUS.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus. . . (Colossians 3:17)

You see the truth of the matter is much more beautiful that many professed Christians understand.  God did not send someone else to come to suffer and die on the cross to pay for our sins . . . HE CAME HIMSELF.

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory” (1 Timothy 3:16).

How was Matthew 28:19 written originally? There are a couple translations that basically say the same thing:

“Go and make disciples of all nations in my name, and teach ye them every thing that I have commanded you.” (See The Writings of Eusebius)

“Go and make disciples of all nations in my name, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you.”

1 John 5:7 was also added in latter centuries which as been proven to the extent that all modern translations have removed the altered verse (see Analysis of 1 John 5:7).

CORRUPTION: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one” (1 John 5:7) KJV.

The truth is that no where in the Bible does God say that He is three, that there are three persons, or that there is a trinity.  Actually just the opposite. . .

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD” (Deuteronomy 6:4).

“Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me” (Isaiah 45:21).

“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” (John 14:9)

“And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he” (Mark 12:32).

“As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one” (1 Corinthians 8:4).

There are many, many more scriptures that prove God is one and not two, three, or anything else.  The Oneness of God is proclaimed all through His Word.

*************************************************
The Catholic Encyclopedia, II, page 263:
“The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by the Catholic Church in the second century.”
************************************************** *********
The Jerusalem Bible, a scholarly Catholic work, states:
“It may be that this formula, (Triune Matthew 28:19) so far as the fullness of its expression is concerned, is a reflection of the (Man-made) liturgical usage established later in the primitive (Catholic) community. It will be remembered that Acts speaks of baptizing “in the name of Jesus,”…”
************************************************** *****************
The Catholic University of America in Washington, D. C. 1923,
New Testament Studies Number 5:
The Lord’s Command To Baptize An Historical Critical Investigation. By Bernard Henry Cuneo page 27. “The passages in Acts and the Letters of St. Paul. These passages seem to point to the earliest form as baptism in the name of the Lord.” Also we find. “Is it possible to reconcile these facts with the belief that Christ commanded his disciples to baptize in the trine form? Had Christ given such a command, it is urged, the Apostolic Church would have followed him, and we should have some trace of this obedience in the New Testament. No such trace can be found. The only explanation of this silence, according to the anti-traditional view, is this the short Christological (Jesus Name) formula was (the) original, and the longer trine formula was a later development.”
****************************************
Catholic Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI):
He makes this confession as to the origin of the chief Trinity text of Matthew 28:19. “The basic form of our (Matthew 28:19 Trinitarian) profession of faith took shape during the course of the second and third centuries in connection with the ceremony of baptism. So far as its place of origin is concerned, the text (Matthew 28:19) came from the city of Rome.” The Trinity baptism and text of Matthew 28:19 therefore did not originate from the original Church that started in Jerusalem around AD 33. It was rather as the evidence proves a later invention of Roman Catholicism completely fabricated. Very few know about these historical facts.

*************************************************
“The Demonstratio Evangelica” by Eusebius:
Eusebius was the Church historian and Bishop of Caesarea. On page 152 Eusebius quotes the early book of Matthew that he had in his library in Caesarea. According to this eyewitness of an unaltered Book of Matthew that could have been the original book or the first copy of the original of Matthew. Eusebius informs us of Jesus’ actual words to his disciples in the original text of Matthew 28:19: “With one word and voice He said to His disciples: “Go, and make disciples of all nations in My Name, teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you.” That “Name” is Jesus.

YOU Were Kidnapped at Birth

Friday, January 17th, 2014

©2013 Stan Hallett

key-in-jail-door(It’s your choice to be captive or free.  The only bonds that hold you are in your heart and mind.)

We Were Created by God in His Image

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26)

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.  (Genesis 2:7)

Kidnapped Children

I got this message right after the three kidnapped girls (Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight) were rescued back in the Spring of 2013.  They were held hostage and abused for 9-11 years. Then I recalled a similar story regarding Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was rescued back in April 2011. Jaycee was held hostage and abused for 18 years. Psychologists say that the women have many long years of intensive therapy and rehabilitation ahead of them, to begin to undo the damage left by the captivity and horrific abuse that they suffered.

Update: There is a more recent but similar story of Kamiyah Mobley who was kidnapped from the hospital at birth by Gloria Williams. She changed the baby’s name to Alexis Kelli Manigo who did not find out that she was kidnapped until she was sixteen years old.  She was finally reunited with her real parents at age eighteen.  Gloria Williams was arrested and the case is pending as of this post update (01/18/17).

Alexis claims that she will always love the woman who was her “mom” for eighteen years.

 Two Fathers?

God is referred to many times in the Bible as our Father, and often by the Lord Himself as He walked among us in the flesh. There were some people that Jesus referred to as Satan being their father . . . 42* Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43* Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44* Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:42-44)

I believe that you and I are the sum total of everything that we have been taught and accepted. Everything that we have taken in through our natural senses. What we hear, what we read and receive, and what we see with our own eyes, along with the things that we can touch and feel. Combine that with your own perceptions and personality and you have the sum total of you.

Young children are very malleable in their young tender years.  That is why King Solomon said Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). This is when we as parents need to teach them, not in just word, but in deed. I think that they actually learn more by watching what the parent does than by what they say.

Often parents say one thing, but do another contrary to what they teach the child. I have seen this so often even in families that have regularly attended Church all through the child’s youth. Sometimes we see a child that was raised in that way be rebellious and have little respect for a parents or a particular parent.  Why? Because the parents preach one thing and do another. They didn’t live it.  They didn’t practice what they preached, and their life was a contradiction.

If a child is raised from birth by a stranger, the relationship grows to become what is familiar, and seems natural to them. It is all that they know. The way in which they have been brought up, and the things that they know and endure become “normal” for them. The things that they believe, even though they may be false, become truth to them. Should this same child after many years come into contact with their natural parent, the real parent will seem foreign, unnatural, and false to them.

On October 4, 1987 Carlina White  was snatched from the hospital at just 19 days old. She was back in the hospital due to an infection. She was 23 years old before she finally discovered the truth. What was interesting to me about this story is that she never knew her real parents, they were strangers to her.  At last report she is trying to get to know her real mother (Joy White) with great difficulties. She claims to be willing to forgive her kidnapper (Ann Pettway) who was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and plans on maintaining a relationship with her. That is an amazing phenomenon. She was brain washed from infancy. What she believed was a lie, but it became true for her. No bonds, or locked doors were necessary. The three other young ladies were kidnapped in their teens and early adulthood.  They had to be restrained to keep them from escaping because they knew the truth of their situation.

Most people that have ever lived on this earth were raised by those that only understand and believe man-made world views, and satan influenced philosophies. They follow the traditions of men (Mark 7:13) and the doctrines of devils (1 Timothy 4:1). Make no mistake, Satan has kidnapped the heart and minds of this world, and the world at large has accepted it from birth, never able to come to the knowledge of the truth (2 Timothy 3:7).

When we approach those that were kidnapped by Satan with the truth, it seems so foreign to many compared to how they were raised. In fact for most, unless they are at their lowest, most desperate place, they will not believe or receive it.

I was talking with someone the other day who was saying “Why can’t I be blessed?  Why can’t I have some things that I desire like a house, and be able to enjoy life and not be stressed over money?” My response to them was “You are blessed!” I said how many real monetarily wealthy people do you see in our assembly?  How many successful doctors, lawyers, well-to-do business men? How many millionaires? Most of those people have put their trust in their knowledge, or in their abilities and in their wealth. Didn’t Jesus say that “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God” (Matthew 19:24)?

Most do not come to God until they are at their lowest point, until God is all that they have left.  They are at their wits end financially, physically, emotionally, and God is the only direction left to turn.

Most kidnapped children are severely abused be their abductors. Similarly satan does not love us, he is a liar and a deceiver.  He hates us, and all of God’s creation, and desires to destroy us. If he can keep us in sin, in disbelief of God, in humanism, in witchcraft, in belief in evolution, in man-made philosophy, in hedonism, and focused on the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, then he has succeeded and has won.

He lies and deceives us with promises, and with the pleasures, and the entertainment of this world. His goal is to lure us further and further into sin (disobedience to God), and keep us captive.

Satan would never die for us, yet many die for satan everyday. There are no bars that keep us, no chains that bind us, no locked doors, no physical fetters of any kind.  We are only held captive by our own mind, and what it is that we believe to be true. Our true Father loved us so greatly that He paid the price for our disobedience with His own blood (Acts 20:28), to redeem us to Himself. All we have to do is to repent, turn from following the father of lies, and obey our true Father.  As the prodigal son did (Luke 15:20-24), we just need to go home.

It’s simply our choice. Satan is a great showman, enticing us with all pleasures that this world has to offer. He promises to fulfill our desires for happiness. But everything we enter into leaves us empty, unfulfilled, and searching for something else that will give us peace, and give us joy. If you’ve never heard this before it may sound foreign and strange to you, and there are so many things that you have yet to try.

Surely something will give you joy, peace and fulfillment. Perhaps promises of fame or stardom.  Perhaps positions of power or prestige, surely that will satisfy. Perhaps sex, or you could try some drug that would make you feel good, and make you forget about all of your problems. Perhaps the latest video game, or the latest sitcom will give you some laughs, some joy, some peace? Come on, there is so much to try!  Food, clothes, cars, relationships, careers, pornography, movies, booze, cigarettes, dope, sports, something is going to fulfill that need, right?

There have been hundreds of movie stars, rock stars, and celebrities that have committed suicide.  They are continually in the news. Obviously the success and fame did not do it for them.  38,329 people died of drug overdoses in 2010, and it’s climbing. Was this the peace or joy that the were looking for? About half of all Americans who keep smoking will die because of the habit. Each year about 4.9 million people die from illnesses related to tobacco use. Smoking cigarettes kills more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined. But they keep right on smoking. The Bible says that there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Everything that you know, think, or believe is a culmination of everything that you have read, seen with your eyes, heard with your ears. You have taken that sum total and weighed them in your heart and your mind, and formed your own unique philosophy based on that information and thought.

What you believe in, as much as you believe a thing, becomes true for you. We’ve all had experiences where we have come across those that have some beliefs that we cannot imagine how they could possibly believe such a thing. In fact I think for most of us, it happens so often that logic would dictate that we ourselves probably have areas of belief that are probably in error. In other words we would have to admit that there are most likely things that we believe that are quite possibly, totally wrong.  That’s tough for some of us to admit.

Many of us that were not raised in the Church, and were not raised by Christian parents, were raised by world dominated views. It is the world system that is orchestrated by who the Apostle Paul referred to as the “God of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4). He has kidnapped and deceived most of mankind, and desires to abuse, violate, torture, and spiritually and emotionally maim each and every one of us.  It is His goal that we perish without God, and therefore suffer the same fate that he is doomed to. Even most of what the world considers to be “Christian” is not true Christianity at all. Most of man-made religion falls short of truth, short of the true Gospel message, and therefore short of salvation.

Even many that have found truth, and have once believed, only to have wandered off enticed by the world, and the lies they still cling to. They say things like; “God knows my weaknesses.” or “Nobody’s perfect.” They may say “God will forgive me for this one little thing”.  “They drank wine in the Bible, what’s wrong with getting a little high?”  “The Bible doesn’t say that smoking is a sin, does it?” “Hey, all the famous preachers get caught doing it.”

It is reported that there are approximately 41,000 Christian denominations in the world today. It is no secret as to why. . . orchestrated confusion and diversion from truth.

If God did not draw us, did not lead us, and did not guide us, how could anyone have a chance to find truth? The world, including most that consider themselves to be Christians are still deceived by the greatest deceiver of them all. Oh yes!  The Bible says “13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  14* And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  15* Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” (2 Corinthians 11:13-15)

If  you have not repented, have not been baptized in the name of Jesus, and you have not been filled with the Holy Ghost, then may I inform you it is no coincidence that you are reading this now. That being the case, and after your true Father has paid the ransom for you, after He has brought you to this point to tell you the truth regarding the captivity that you have been in, and after knowing that regardless of the overwhelming deception in the world. . . You by His grace and mercy have found your way here. How could you come this close and not respond with brokenness and joy to have finally, after all these years of lies and captivity, now having come to the knowledge of your true Father, the only one that loves you with a love like none other.  The one that suffered to pay the price for you to be redeemed to Himself, and safely returned to Him.

What a joyful thing to be able to come home and cry “Father forgive me, for I have sinned against you!” and be forgiven and received. He desires to have a personal covenant relationship with you.  He said that His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:30). The Gospel is simple. . . Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38) 15:1* ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;  2* By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.  3* For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;  (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

He does not ask us to die on the cross as He did for us. But rather he requires us to die to ourselves through repentance, which means to turn from our ways and follow Him. He does not ask us to be buried in a tomb as He was, but in like figure we are buried with Him in the waters of baptism in His name. Then He promises us that the very same Spirit that raised Him up on the third day would also be given to us with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. …the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (Acts 2:39) The choice is yours today.

The only bonds that hold you are in your own mind. Yes, that’s right! The greatest battle known to mankind, having the greatest consequence, is fought on a very small battlefield. ”And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.“  (Luke 2:4,5). God formed us and breathed the breath of life into us.  He created us to have fellowship with him, to be His children. But God did not create us as robots or slaves.  He gave us free will, free choice. It’s your choice to be captive or free.  The bonds that hold you are only in your heart and mind.

We Are His Children

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God(Romans 8:14) That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; (Philippians 2:15) Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (1 John 3:1) I beseech you, I beg you, If you are here, and you have not repented, or you have not been baptized in the name of Jesus, and you have not been filled with the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38), then may I inform you it is no coincidence that you are here now, regardless of the circumstances that caused you to be here at this moment. Why We Must Be Baptized in the NAME of the FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST

Monday, January 21st, 2013

© 2013 Stan Hallett

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father , and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19).

baptismThe Bible commands and teaches the necessity of water baptism for the New Testament Church (John 3:3, John 3:5, Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:20,21), so it is our responsibility to obey this commandment. One day each of us will account for our lives. Since we have God’s Word, ignorance will not be an acceptable excuse on that day.

The Necessity of Water Baptism

Is water baptism a necessary part of the salvation experience of the New Testament? People have various ideas about water baptism that we cannot always trust. We need to depend upon the Word of God as our source of instruction.

Jesus gave us some insight as to the importance of water baptism in John 3:5: “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.” Both the context of that statement and the subsequent practice of the New Testament church indicate that He was speaking of water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

If in Matthew 28:19, Jesus gave the apostles and us a direct command to go, teach, and baptize converts. Then since He gave this command, baptism is important and necessary.

The Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

If Jesus instructed us to baptize “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”. In other words, He told us to baptize in the name (singular) that fully reveals God in His redemptive manifestation and work.

Father, Son and Holy Ghost are titles and not names. I am a father and I am also a son and I also have a spirit. All that refers to who I am, but none of that is my name. What is the name?

The name given to the Son of God was Jesus. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

Jesus was a genuine human being, born by the miraculous work of God’s Spirit in the womb of a virgin, and thus He was literally the Son of God (Luke 1:35). He was more than a man however, He was actually the one God manifested in the flesh (Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:17). He was the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).

As such Jesus declared, “I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive” (John 5:43). In other words, the Father is made known to us by the name of Jesus. The Father, the one true invisible God, gave His name to the Son (the manifestation of God in flesh), thus the Son received His name by inheritance (Hebrews 1:4).

The name Jesus literally means “Jehovah Savior.” Jehovah was the unique name by which the one true God identified Himself to Israel in the Old Testament. The name Jesus describes the one God of the Old Testament coming in flesh to be our Savior. Thus the name of Jesus reveals both the Father and the Son.

What about the Holy Ghost? What name reveals God in His spiritual essence and action? Jesus said, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26). In other words, the Holy Spirit comes to us in the name of Jesus. The Holy Spirit does not come to us with a separate identity but is the Spirit of Jesus. Jesus Himself comes to dwell within us Spiritually (John 14:16-18; Colossians 1:27).

In short, the supreme name that reveals God, the name by which we know the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is Jesus. By invoking the name of Jesus, then, we would fulfill the command of Matthew 28:19.

The Importance of the Name of Jesus

Many passages of scripture emphasize the importance and supremacy of the name of Jesus. “Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

“Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem”  (Luke 24:47).

“To him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43).

“Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” (Hebrews 1:4).

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of the things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him” (Colossians 3:17). If we are to do all things in the Name of Jesus, why would baptism be in any other way?

The Practice of the Early Church

How did the apostles obey the command that Jesus gave to them in Matthew 28:19? On the Day of Pentecost, sinners asked the question, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). The apostle Peter gave them the answer: “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). This verse reveals that the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and that baptism is for the remission of sins.

When Saul (later known as Paul) repented, Ananias instructed him, “And now why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord”.

What is the name of the Lord?

Just a few days earlier, Paul had asked the same question: “Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest” (Acts 9:5). Paul later wrote, “No man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost” (1 Corinthians 12:3).

Jesus revealed Himself to Paul as the Lord (Acts 9:3-8). Paul knew about the Lord God of the Old Testament, but at that time he did not serve the Jesus of the New Testament. But he learned that the Lord of the Old Testament was the same Lord of the New Testament, and to his amazement this one Lord was Jesus.

The Bible clearly indicates that there is but one Lord, and not only one Lord, but one faith, and not only one faith but one baptism (Ephesians 4:5). When Philip preached the gospel in Samaria, those who believed “were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 8:16).

When a group of Gentiles received the Holy Spirit, Peter asked, “Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord” (Acts 10:47-48). As we have just seen, the name of the Lord is Jesus. Moreover, as translations such as the Amplified Bible and the New International Version (Acts 10:47-48 NIV) indicate, the oldest Greek manuscripts we now have actually state here, “in the name of Jesus Christ”.

Paul re-baptized the disciples of John at Ephesus in the name of Jesus. “He said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 19:3-5).

The Command of Matthew 28:19

Clearly the early church baptized everyone (Jews, Samaritans, and Gentiles) in the name of Jesus. How does this practice harmonize with Matthew 28:19? First, Matthew 28:19 says “in the name” (singular) not “in the names” or “in the titles or offices of God.” The name that Matthew 28:19 describes is Jesus. So the apostles correctly understood and baptized converts in the name of Jesus.

The Bible does not tell us that we have life through the titles of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, but it tells us we have life through the name of Jesus. “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name” (John 20:31).

The Bible does not say that we are baptized into three different persons, but it says we are “baptized into Jesus Christ” (Romans 6:3-4). Specifically, we are “buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead” (Colossians 2:12).

Conclusion

As it is written in the King James version, shortly before His ascension Jesus gave the baptismal command found in Matthew 28:19 to the apostles. According to Luke 24:45, He also opened their understanding. A few days after His ascension He baptized 120 waiting disciples with His Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. On this occasion the apostles proclaimed to the multitude that everyone should be baptized in the name of Jesus (Acts 2:38).

The apostles understood that Jesus was the redemptive name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. They did not merely repeat those three titles (as many denominations do today), but rather they invoked the name to which those titles referred. The other preachers in the New Testament Church, such as Philip, Ananias, and Paul, adhered to the same baptismal formula.

There are no contradictions in the Word of God as it was inspired by God and written by the apostles and patriarchs. The New Testament teaches that we must be baptized “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”, and that name is Jesus.

Colossians 3:17 says “…whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…”. If we are directed to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, why would we baptize in any other way?

Then consider this; in John 14:6 Jesus was speaking of the Father, so in John 14:8 Phillip said to Jesus; “Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.” To which Jesus replied in John 14:9; “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?”

It is easy to understand if in fact you have the revelation that God is one, and not three. Who Jesus is and was is a revelation from God. “There is one Lord and His Name One” (Ephesians 4:5)!

“And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one” (Zechariah 14:9).

Placebo Christianity

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

©2012 Stan Hallett

Placebo:   A placebo (pləˈsiboʊ/ plə-see-boh; Latin placēbō, “I shall please” from placeō, “I please”) is a simulated or otherwise medically ineffectual treatment for a disease or other medical condition intended to deceive the recipient. Sometimes patients given a placebo treatment will have a perceived or actual improvement in a medical condition, a phenomenon commonly called the “placebo effect.

In medical research, placebos are given as control treatments and depend on the use of measured deception. Common placebos include inert tablets, sham surgery, and other procedures based on false information. However, placebos can also have a surprisingly positive effect on a patient who knows that the given treatment is without any active drug, as compared with a control group who knowingly did not get a placebo.

In one common placebo procedure, however, a patient is given an inert pill, told that it may improve his/her condition, but not told that it is in fact inert. Such an intervention may cause the patient to believe the treatment will change his/her condition; and this belief may produce a subjective perception of a therapeutic effect, causing the patient to feel their condition has improved — or an actual improvement in their condition. This phenomenon is known as the placebo effect.

Jesus asked Simon Peter “Who do ye say that I am?” Peter said; “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Then Jesus said; “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:15-19).

There are three Biblical truths that I want to point out in that portion of scripture:

(1.) Who Jesus is, is a revelation from God. Most of the religious, and even proclaimed “Christians” do not fully understand who Jesus is.

(2.) The name Peter is derived from the Greek Πετρος (Petros) meaning “stone”. This is a translation used in most versions of the New Testament of the name Cephas, meaning “stone” in Aramaic, which was given to the apostle Simon by Jesus. But when Jesus said; “thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church“, He wasn’t saying that He was going to build his church on Peter, or even beginning with Peter as a foundation, but rather on the verse before, which is the revelation of who Jesus is. That is the foundation on what Jesus built His Church on.

(3.) That it was Jesus that built His Church, not Simon Peter, not the Christians, not the Jews, not the Mormons, not the Catholics, not the Pentecostals, or Apostolics, not the Baptists, nor anyone else but Jesus. There is but one Church.

(4.) That the keys that Jesus told Peter that he would give to him were not physical keys, sorry Catholics. St. Peter is not the physical keeper at heavens gate with a big key ring. The Keys that Jesus gave to Peter were spiritual keys that Peter then shared with us in Acts 2:38 where he said; “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Death, Burial, and Resurrection, those are the keys to heaven, and that is the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

God has given us free volition, and free will to choose and live as we please. Without God’s allowance, satan also cannot violate our free volition and free will.

There is a great spiritual battle going on, from the time that God created man, right up  until this very moment. It is a battle waged in the hearts and minds of men.

Satan uses trickery, lures, traps, and deceit, which are seemingly endless. For the most part he has most of the world convinced that either there is no God or they have a very warped, worldly conception of God. However, just in case they use that free will and try find God, he throws in great confusion.

Primary Religions of the World

1. Christianity: 2.1 billion
2. Islam: 1.5 billion
3. Secular/Nonreligious/Agnostic/Atheist: 1.1 billion
4. Hinduism: 900 million
5. Chinese traditional religion: 394 million
6.Buddhism: 376 million
7. primal-indigenous: 300 million
8. African Traditional & Diasporic: 100 million
9. Sikhism: 23 million
10. Juche: 19 million
11. Spiritism: 15 million
12. Judaism: 14 million
13. Baha’i: 7 million
14. Jainism: 4.2 million
15. Shinto: 4 million
16. Cao Dai: 4 million
17. Zoroastrianism: 2.6 million
18. Tenrikyo: 2 million
19. Neo-Paganism: 1 million
20. Unitarian-Universalism: 800 thousand
21. Rastafarianism: 600 thousand
22. Scientology: 500 thousand

Just in “Christianity” alone there are now reported to be approximately 41,000 Christian denominations in world, many of which cannot be verified to be significant. Talk about confusion!

Let me ask you a question. . . without direction, or revelation from God, how would anyone know what is truth, or find the true Church? Remember there is only one true Church, the one that Jesus is building.

But that is just what so many in the world try to do! The paths are as varied as there are people in the world. Some choose a religion or denomination based on a family members, a friend, a neighbor. Many simply try to find what seems right to them. Many go from religion to religion, denomination to denomination, assembly to assembly, looking for something that they can accept, and that feels right to them. A place where they can be happy or satisfied, and feel good about.

This is why 2 Timothy 4:3 says “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears”. 4* And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Many folks were born into whatever religion or denomination that their parents were a part of. They were born a Baptist, or a Catholic, or whatever, and they are going to die a Baptist, or a Catholic, or whatever.

It’s an psychological and emotional attachment for most. Many will stay with the Church that they got “saved” in, or won over to because of this. They have a psychological loyalty to their philosophy and their Placebo Christianity.

Colossians 2:6-9

6* As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:  7* Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8* Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  9* For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Many in false religions and false Christianity have been spoiled through philosophy and deceit. They either will not get into a discussion with you regarding it due to instructions they have received, or they know that they lack the ability to adequately defend what it is they believe. Some will argue and debate with you to justify or prove out what it is they believe, never able to see truth (2 Timothy 3:7).

2 Timothy 3:1-9

1* This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2* For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3* Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  4* Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;  5* Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6* For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7* Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8* Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9* But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

Offended Friends & Embarrassed Family

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

©2011 Stan Hallett

Embarrassed FamilyI have occasionally considered quitting Facebook (I actually did in 2012).  I happened to mention this to a family member recently to which they replied; “Great, I won’t have to read your posts anymore”. When I asked why they had made such a statement they told me that they did not agree with my telling people that they were wrong when it came to what they believed about salvation.

They went on to say that they felt that I would not win anyone that way and that it is better just to be an example to people, and that people would become interested because how they see me live my life. That’s not word for word, but pretty close.

So how should we as Christians live?  Should we just be a quiet example so that we don’t offend people and embarrass family?  I was asked how that was working for me?  Had I won anyone by this method?  The answer is, yes I have actually.

We need to speak the truth in love, and we need to preach the Gospel.  The Word of God is clear that one may plant, another may water, but it’s God that gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6,7).  We may not always see the fruit of our labor, but we still need to do the work that we were called to do. I guess I would like to ask the question back; How many have you won by just being a quiet example?  No answer is required, I already know. Satan would love to silence those that would preach the truth.

The world in general, and many of our unsaved friends and family and others would like us to; “Just be a quiet example.” . . . “Don’t profess something contrary to what I believe” . . . “Don’t embarrass me!” Did John the Baptist live a quiet example?  Did Jesus just live a quiet example?  Did the Apostle Paul just live a quite example?  Did the early Church just live a quiet example?  No, they didn’t!

I am not mean to people.  I do not call people names.  I don’t even like debate.  We don’t need to defend the gospel, but we are to contend for the gospel. So I will continue to preach the truth and the gospel to anyone that will listen. Charles Spurgeon once said; “Defend the Bible? I would as soon defend a lion!” You don’t need to defend a lion, you just turn it loose and it will defend itself.

If someone believes a false gospel and is not saved, I’m going to tell them, and use Bible to back up every word I say. Listen, it would be easier for me to just go along with the program and itch their ears and tell them how wonderful they are and agree with their false salvation doctrine.  Think of the friends I could have! So what on earth would motivate me to do something that many find offensive or embarrassing?  Simple. . . souls! I want to see people saved, regardless of what they think of me.

Listen my friends, the Bible does not contradict the Bible.  All of the Word of God is in agreement. If you find something in the Word of God that you think contradicts another scripture, then you do not understand that scripture. Jesus said; “Except an man be born or the water and of the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (John 3:3-5). The Bible says that baptism saves us (1 Peter 3:21)! The Bible says that everyone was baptized in Jesus’ name, not in the titles of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. They obeyed the command and didn’t just repeat it. If you think thats just semantics then we need to talk.

If I wrote you a check and signed it father, or son, or brother, or grandson, or husband, do you think that you could cash it?  Those are just titles, or roles of relationship that I hold or have held. They are not my name.  Matthew 28:19 says to baptize in the NAME (singular) of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  Look at every account that follows in the book of Acts.  The Apostles knew what that name was, and they baptized in Jesus’ name!

The Bible says that the Gospel must be obeyed or face the judgement (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).  That would contradict this false gospel that says that our obedience is a work.  Obedience is not a work! What is the gospel? Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Thats the gospel, the good news, that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day.

2 Thessalonians 1:8 says that we will face a terrible judgement if we do not obey the gospel. Question: How do we obey what appears to be a historical event?  I’m glad I asked that question! Repentance (death to ourselves), Baptized in His Name, which is to be buried with Him (Romans 6:3-11), then God promises to fill us with His Spirit (Acts 2:38).  It is this same Spirit that raised up Jesus on the third day and will likewise raise us up when He returns to take up His Church. Death, Burial, Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) = Repentance, Baptism, Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38). “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism” (Ephesians 4:5).  One Salvation, Hallelujah! Come on friends.  Check it out!  Stop believing the lie!  I don’t mean to be offensive, I’m just telling you the truth!

Most of what the world calls Orthodox Christianity is a lie and part of the  broad way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:13-14).

Led by the Word of God vs. Our Feelings

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

©2011 Stan Hallett

We cannot live for God by our feelings. Feelings have no intellect. We must live our lives by the Word of God. As Brother Anthony Mangun says; “Feelings are the caboose and the Word of God is the Engine.” Many live their lives the other way around. We have to be led by the Word of God.

I’ve had this poem written in the front of my Bible for years:

“Feelings come and feelings go,
And feelings are deceiving;
My warrant is the Word of God
Naught else is worth believing.

Though all my heart should feel condemned
For want of some sweet token,
There is One greater than my heart
Whose Word cannot be broken.

I’ll trust in God’s unchanging Word
Till soul and body sever,
For, though all things shall pass away,
His Word shall stand forever!”
