Are you a Christian? Really? What is a Christian? Is it not someone that is a follower of Jesus Christ? Is it not someone that believes that he is our Lord, and not just our Savior? Is it not someone that is obedient to His Word?

Would you then not agree that if someone does not obey His commandments that they indeed are not Christians, and if they say that they are, they have made themselves liars? Harsh words I know, but is it not the truth?

Did Jesus not command us to go into all the world and preach the gospel? Did he not tell us that we would receive power when the Holy Ghost is come upon us and that we would be witnesses even to the uttermost parts of the earth?

Which of you that have been given so great a salvation, that has received the revelation of the one God in Christ Jesus, and who has been baptized in His Name and been filled with His Spirit, now feels that they are exempt from service?

Are you ashamed of the gospel? Jesus said; “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in His own glory, and in His Father’s and of the holy angels.”

Did you think it was just for your pastor, or a select few of hyper-spiritual folks in the Church to do? Are we not all members in particular of one body, the Church. (1 Corinthians 12:27). There is only one Church. It has no town or denominational name over the door. You are either a member of the Church or you are not. The Church is not a building or a place you go. We are the Church!

You don’t get into the Church by attendance or signing some Church membership application. You don’t get into the Church by any man-made ritual or acceptance by committee. You get into the Church by obedience to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as laid out by Jesus in John 3:3 and John 3:5 and as defined in Acts 2:38.

You stay in the church by continuing to walk in the newness of life (Romans 6:4), dying to yourself daily (1 Corinthians 15:31), and being obedient to the Word of God.

Get you armor on! Spend time in the Word and in Prayer daily! Do your friends know of your faith? Have you witnessed to them? Have you witnessed to the neighbors? Have you even spoke to them? Do they know you’re a Christian? Have you invited them to Church or to a Bible Study? Do your co-workers know that you’re Christian. If they don’t then maybe you aren’t!

Ever hit the streets, going wherever God would lead, and sharing the gospel to all that would listen? (Unless God directs otherwise, always go by two or three).

Don’t have all the answers? Did you meet objections you cannot overcome? Questions you could not answer? Great! An opportunity for growth for you. Go find out the answer so that you can overcome that issue the next time it arrises.

Get going! Jesus is coming!

Once I stood alone, my life empty and bleak,
No time for God, nor Him did I seek.

Seeking what pleasures the world had to offer,
I was full of pride, I was a fool and a scoffer.

It was to life’s pleasures that I paid homage,
I had been deceived, and I was in bondage.

Liar, thief, and deceitful in all my ways,
Pursuit of worldly pleasures filled my days.

The lust of the eye and lust of the flesh
Only satisfied for a moment, fleeting at best.

Then He softly called me and knocked on my door,
He told me of the promises that He had in store.

But through rebellion and pride for years I reproved,
How foolish I was, and in deception, unmoved.

All that I had to do was repent, get washed of my sin,
Then He promised that His Spirit would fill me within.

Through His Grace and Mercy by His blood we were bought,
It is because of His great Love for us that we are sought.

When it finally hit home, when it finally got through,
When truth was realized, what else could I do?

Because of Love overwhelming I gave in to His Will,
He kept His promise and with His Spirit I was filled.

Now I’m a warrior for Jesus, sharing the good news,
I’m a soldier, a minister, not just sitting in pews.

I stand on the battlefield, with this sword in my hand,
Standing on His promises and obeying His command.

Satan’s been defeated and he knows what’s in store,
He may occasionally win a battle, but he’s lost the war.

So this is my life, and this is my sword,
I’m a front line warrior for Jesus my Lord.

Searching for the captive and setting them free,
Laying up treasures in heaven for all eternity.

What this world has to offer, there’s not much to that,
But here on the battlefield, now that’s where it’s at.

This is where you belong if you carry His name,
In the family of God, you’ll never be the same.

My heart is bursting with joy, I cannot sit still,
My pleasure is now in Him, and doing His will.

Perhaps you’ve tried it your way, but failed in disgrace,
After all the world had to offer, perhaps fell on your face.

You may think that in this life that you have the rule,
If so, you’ve been duped, you’ve been lied to and fooled.

In truth, in this life there is no middle ground,
In this there is no compromise that can be found.

You must choose this day who to put your trust in;
You’re either a servant of Jesus, or a slave to sin.

So if you’re here today and you hear His call,
Why don’t you answer? It’s God after all!

You think it’s by accident that you sit in that pew?
It’s not you that chose God, but it’s God that chose you!

So why not repent of your will and turn to His way,
And be baptized for the remission of your sins today?

Then His promise to fill you with His Spirit is sure,
If He filled the likes of me, then your gift is secure.

Can I get a witness that His Word is true?
If you can confirm it, how about an amen or two?

Shout with the voice of triumph, all in one accord,
Clap hands all ye people and give praise to the Lord!

Holy Ghost AND with Fire?

fireI have heard many preachers over the years talk about how we are baptized with the Holy Ghost and with Fire. It was just ingrained in me over the years and I never really questioned it.

I was getting ready to preach an evangelistic message and was testing the look of a Powerpoint presentation on the the platform screen. My title had something to do with the Holy Ghost. The background for the title page was fire. A pastor friend who saw it said. “What’s with the fire?” Then he gave me a quick little Bible study. It took about sixty seconds for me to see it.

If you read the verse before and after Matthew 3:11, I think you will see that the Church is baptized with the Holy Ghost, but never with fire. Please do a word study of the word fire in the New Testament. Fire always refers to the punishment and not to the Church.

John the Baptist said that “He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire” because he was talking to those that would be saved, as well as those that would not be saved. Those that are lost will be baptized (submersed) in the lake of fire. Fire has nothing to do with the Church.

We cannot take it out of context and just quote verse number eleven.  If we read also verse ten and verse twelve, now we can see indeed that we do not want to be baptized in fire. . .

Matthew 3:10-12
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
