Repentance, With Conviction

I once knew a man who sought the Holy Spirit for many years.  I asked the Lord why he did not receive it, even though he  appeared to seek the Lord often.  He often appeared to be broken and contrite, yet still he did not receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

During the service later that same morning a message was preached, and part of the context at the end was about repentance, a simple about face, a changing of direction, or turning from your will for your life to God’s Will. A concept I knew very well . . . but then the words came to me “with conviction”.

I remembered about how in my younger years I was a heavy cigarette smoker.  Many times I made attempts to quit smoking.  I tried to quit for many reasons, such as smoking was bad for my health, smoking caused me to have shortness of breath, smoking smelled, getting on my clothes and person, on my family, inside my car, and inside my home. Smoking was costly on a monetary level. Smoking was looked down on in many circles.  Smoking was not allowed in many public places and many homes, making it more a more difficult to be a smoker.

For all of these reasons and more, I tried to quit smoking many times in my life.  Sometimes I waited until I finished my last cigarette. Sometimes I put them aside and tried.  Sometimes I threw away cigarettes and tried. Every time I tried, I failed.  Most times I only went for a few hours, or a day, before I caved in and just had to have a cigarette.

The problem was that even though I knew that I should quit, and I knew of the good reasons why, I simply could not quit because I did not really want to quit.  The truth was that I enjoyed smoking and I wanted to smoke, more than I wanted to quit.

It was not until I had made up my mind that I did not want to be a smoker anymore with firm conviction, a made up mind, that I was able to quit. Was there an slight addiction and desire from dependency and habit?  Yes, but desire and conviction can override that. I simply replaced it with a piece of hard candy (butterscotch was my favorite) every time that I felt the urge to reach for a cigarette. I simply replaced it with a piece of candy instead.  After a week or two I no longer had the urge.  In fact the smell of cigarette smoke became repulsive to me. This was all on my own, I was not walking with the Lord at all at the time that I quit.

What was the difference from all the other times that I made attempts to quit earlier? It was that I had conviction, and my mind was made up. . . . there was no going back.

Repentance can be a very difficult thing for some people.  They want God in their life and they believe His Word. They may have been baptized in Jesus’ name, which was easy for them to do. They just had to present themselves and be baptized. But sometimes they have some sinful habit in their life, perhaps some secret sin or sins that they just cannot let go of.  It has become an addiction to them. They want to be saved, but they want the pleasure of the sin more.  It may be fornication, pornography, or something else.

They know that they have this problem, and feel that if they can just get God to heal them from this thing, they can make it.  But the truth is that they desire it, and because they desire it more than they want God’s Will in their life, they are not truly repentant and God knows it.

Does this mean that one must be a non smoker before they are filled with the Holy Ghost? No. Does it mean that one has to be living a righteous life first?  No, not at all. But nether can we know we are doing something that is of a sinful nature, not be repentant of it, and expect God will fill us with His Spirit.

Perhaps, they feel that if they can just be filled with the Holy Spirit that this thing will be taken away from them. The truth is that as long as we are here on this earth, in this mortal body, we will always have our flesh. God does not make us robots. He does not circumvent your own will with His.  We have to chose His Will for our life over our own will.  In other words repent, with conviction.

Yes, the Holy Spirit will give us the power to be able to withstand the temptations of the flesh and Satan, but until we die, or God raptures His Church, we still will have our flesh.

I once taught a teen Sunday School class in which I taught a lesson on what true repentance is.  It is a complete letting go of our flesh and the things of this world and a taking hold of the things of God.  I placed two throw rugs on the floor several feet apart representing opposite sides of a great divide.  One side represented Satan, this world, and things of the flesh.  The other side represented God, Heaven, the things of God, and His Will for our life.

The only way that one could reach the other side was to leap free of this world leaving everything behind.  No way to cling onto anything that is bound to this world and still reach the other side.  If you hung onto anything it would keep you bound to this world, making you unable to reach the other side.

One needed to be convinced that this world held nothing for them, to have conviction and purpose of mind that they we going to make a decision for permanent change. . . God’s Will for my life and not mine.

Naturally this is a spiritual leap and not a physical one, but is every bit as real. The battlefield is in the heart and mind of every individual.

Yes, sin separates us from God. None of us are righteous, no not one.  However, regardless if you committed adultery last night, watched pornography, or lied yesterday, or stole money this morning.  .  . if you truly repent with conviction, then God can save you and fill you with His Spirit right where you are. To do this we must desire His Will for our life more than that thing that we need to repent of.

Yes, when we comprehend the salvation message, the Gospel, and understand that He died for us and paid the price for our sins, we can be pricked in our heart, sorrowful for our sin, we can become contrite and even weep.  This is natural.  But realizing our position with God and becoming aware of our sin, and being sorrowful is not what is required to be saved.  It is repentance or a turning away from sin and our will with conviction.  It is a made up mind that we want God’s Will for our life, and that we are going to be obedient to His Word from that moment on.

You can’t fake it with God.  You can fool the congregation and the pastor, but God sees the heart. Repent with conviction, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

How do we overcome sin?  The same way that I overcame smoking; every time a sinful desire comes our way, we simply replace it with worship, prayer, some time in God’s Word, and the sweet things of God.

Revelation of One God!

Thursday, June 7th, 2012

©2012 Stan Hallett

I  know it!  I know it beyond the shadow of a doubt, and further, I know it is a revelation from God!  Why do I know this?  Because it is so clear once God reveals it!  It’s right before our eyes all through the Word of God.  No one could possibly miss it, yet millions can not, or will not see.

Having said that, if you believe that God is a trinity, or triune, or that there are three persons in the Godhead because that was what you were taught, ask yourself this . . .

Do you want to know the truth no matter what?  No matter where the chips fall?

If that is true, God knows your heart.  Pray right now that God would reveal this marvelous truth to you!

I believe if you desire the truth and an earnestly pray that prayer, that God will give you the same revelation that he has given to me and many others. . . .

Are you ready?  Here we go:

I will give you many scriptures here to bear out all that I say.  God’s Word is true.  First let me give it to you in a nutshell; The Bible makes it very clear that God is omnipresent (Jeremiah 23:24, Proverbs 15:3), that means that He is everywhere at the same time. The Bible also bears out the fact that God is omnipotent (Matthew 19:26, Isaiah 40:28, Luke 1:37), meaning that he is all powerful and that He has all power.

The Bible also clearly states that God is a Spirit (John 4:24), and that no man has seen God at anytime (John 1:18, 1 John 4:12).

The Word of God also says that God is One, that there is none before Him, none beside Him and none after Him (Isaiah 45:6).  The first of all commands is; Hear O Israel the Lord our God, the Lord is one (Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:29). Further God says that He will not give His glory to another (Isaiah 42:8, 48:11).

Because God is omnipresent and because the flesh of a man could not bear all that God is lest he die. All of God could not be contained within a human body.

When a man fathers a son, a small part of himself (seed) makes it possible for that to happen.  In like figure, God who is Spirit took a small part of Himself (Spirit) and He robed that Spirit in flesh (John 1:1,John 1:14), and He called that flesh His Son.

. . . “and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus was not a second person of a Godhead, he was almighty God robed in flesh. “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature”– (1 Colossians 1:15)

Jesus said to Philip: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.” Philip saith unto him, “Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.  Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father ?” (John 14:6-9)

Think about it, if your loved one whom you loved without measure was held for ransom and was going to die unless someone else died in her place. Would you send your son whom you also loved, or would you, because of your great love for her go and take her place yourself?

Yes, God did that! The story is a much more beautiful than most of the “orthodox christian” world believes or can comprehend. God did not send a another to die for us, He came Himself in the flesh of man!

The Holy Spirit is not some third person of a Godhead, but by it’s very definition is the Spirit of God as manifested to us, felt by us, and lives within all who are filled with His Spirit. This is why the comforter could not come until Jesus went away.  He took his visible body away and sent us that same Spirit, His Spirit to not only dwell with us, but if we obeyed the gospel He would dwell in us! Because of that we are now the Church, His body!  “…lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” – Matthew 28:20.

When the man Jesus (the flesh) died, the Spirit of God continued as God.  When we obey the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Acts 2:38, John 3:3-5) and are filled with that same Spirit, with the same book of Acts proof of that infilling (Acts 2:4), now God is within us!  Now Christ lives within us (Galatians 2:20)! When we die, our flesh which was created from the earth, goes back to the earth, but our soul lives on as does the Spirit of God that dwelt with us and was in us, in the same manner it was in the man Christ Jesus.

What was contained in Him is now contained in all those that have obeyed the gospel and have His Spirit within them.  God is still robed in flesh, in His body which is the Church!

There are not three “persons” in the “Godhead”. God is not a person, God’s Spirit as manifested to us (the Holy Spirit) is not a “person”. The only “person” was when God was manifested to us in the person of Jesus Christ, and He dwelt amongst us. He was fully man and fully God.

Acts 20:28 says; “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

Question: If God is a Spirit, where does a spirit get blood?

Jesus was in fact God as manifested to man in the flesh, who was called Emmanuel. “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

God was, is, and always will be One!  “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory” (1 Timothy 3:16).

Want more proof? “Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God (John 20:27,28).

There is only One God, One Lord, One Faith, One Gospel, One Baptism, One Salvation and One Church. The Church that Jesus built upon the rock of which is the foundation of not who Peter was (Matthew 16:15-18), but of the revelation of who Jesus was.

Jesus was God who came in the flesh to redeem man to himself, and to pay the price for the penalty of sin for the whole world. The revelation of Jesus is was the foundation of what God built His Church upon – (Matthew 16:18)!  One Church, not a man-made organization, or a building dependent of what name was over the door!

A Church that preaches the same gospel message, lest they be accursed (Galatians 1:8), A  Church that has obeyed the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Acts 2:38, John 3:3-5), A Church of which Jesus prayed that would be one, even as He and the Father were one (John 17:21-23).

Why?

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

©2012 Stan Hallett

Do you ever wonder why about things?  Why we are?  Why do we do what we do?  Why are we here?  What is it all about anyway, and why do we believe what we believe about it?

I meet, hear about, or read about more and more people that do not believe in God. People that believe that the Bible is just a book of fairytales. This is the person that I feel the most sorry for.  The Bible says; “The fool hath said in his heart there is no God” (Psalms 53:1). The Bible also says that we are without excuse (Romans 1:20). The evidence and proof that there is a God is staggering, and all around us.

Why do people believe what they believe? Whatever they believe, it becomes truth for them. It’s their truth, their reality no matter how varied or different. Many go through their entire lives never pondering the question; why do I believe what I believe, and what is the truth of the matter?

The world’s opinions on life, our purpose, God, creation, etc., has almost as many variations as there are people in the world.  Each person having their own set of ideas, concepts, ideals, traditions, religions, and beliefs.

Take just the area of Christianity alone;  There are more Christian denominations in the “Christian” world than anyone can accurately number or list.  Yet,  this is contrary to what Jesus had established.  The one true Church was built (Matthew 16:18) and added to (Acts 2:47) by Jesus.  Jesus’ last prayer while he was still with us in the flesh, was that we would be one (John 17:22).

Truly there is still is, and can be only ONE Church, regardless of what assembly one belongs to, or what sign is out front of the building where they meet.  Some are part of the true Church that Jesus founded, but sadly most are not.

Which are and which are not?  You have to decide for yourself, but be very careful, your eternity depends on what you believe or accept.  The criteria set forth for this determination is found in the Word of God, but do you know where?  It is primarily found in the book of Acts. The book of the ‘Acts of the Apostles’ is the history of the early Church.  This is the Church that Jesus founded, not Martin Luther, not Joseph Smith, not L. Ron Hubbard, not Budda, not Mohammed, not John Wesley, or anyone else.

If you want to learn how to make sure you are in the Church, you have to go back to the beginning.  Back to where people were told what they needed to do to be saved. Back to where the gospel was first preached. Back to where the people first obeyed the gospel. Most of the books of the Bible that follow the book of Acts are epistles, or letters written to those that were already in the Church.

If you want to know how to be part of the Church, you need to go to the beginning, back to where the Church began, in the book of Acts. If you want to know what the early Church believed and did.  If you want to know if you are in the Church, you have to compare what you believe and do based on what is written there.

Why are there so many denominations? It’s for the same reason why there are so many religions and creeds, traditions, beliefs in the world. . . deception. Satan is the great deceiver and the father of lies. The Bible says that “If our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost” (2 Corinthians 4:3).  The revelation of who Jesus is and the Gospel is a revealed to us by God Himself. You can go on following man-made traditions, or you can seek God for a revelation of what the truth is.

In my opinion it would be virtually impossible once having looked at all of the religions and beliefs in the world, to choose the right one based upon our own understanding. Yet that is what the vast majority of mankind tries to do.  We often choose based on our own intellect.  What seems right to us.  Sometimes just because of tradition.  It is often heard that one is what they are because that is what their parents were.  “Our family has always been Catholic”, or Baptist, or whatever.

A person will often choose a “Church” based on if they like the people, or the pastor, or if the Church is convenient, or they have nice music or activities.  Often its just that they feel uplifted when they leave, and that is what they feel they need (2 Timothy 4:3,4).

Most people naturally desire to be part of something that caters to their flesh. The flesh wants to be entertained, but entertainment is often satan’s substitute for the joy of the Lord.  Most people want to hear that they are saved, or going to heaven because they accepted some creed, or said some prayer, without really having to change their lifestyle or give up the things that they enjoy in this world, or want to do.

Most that consider themselves to be Christians in this world are very difficult to tell apart from the rest of the world.  They still do most of the things the world does.  Perhaps they have cleaned up their act a little.  Perhaps they watch movies, just not the x-rated ones.  Perhaps they have quit swearing or taking the Lords name in vain, at least when they could help it.  Perhaps, they gave up drinking or smoking, at least while around other “Christians”.  Perhaps they abstain from fornication, and perhaps they try to be honest, but for the vast majority, truthfully that’s about it.

The Word of God says that unless we repent, which is to turn from our ways to God’s way, that we cannot be saved. It’s not just changing our ways, but true repentance means that we have changed our mind.  Changing your ways simply because you are told it is what you should do, will find you right back doing the same thing, because you never truly had a change of heart.

The truth is that we were created by God to have a relationship with Him.  The truth is that sin has separated us from Him.  The truth is that He has paid the price for that sin to redeem us to Himself. The truth is we need to merely obey the Gospel to be born again into a relationship with Him.

But what is the Gospel?  Is it not just that Jesus died for our sins, and all we have to do is accept Him as our Savior?  No, the Gospel is clearly laid out in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. “Moreover brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I have preached unto you, which ye have also received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and rose again the third day according to the scriptures”.

That’s the Gospel!  Now pay attention! 2 Thessalonians 1:8 says that Jesus will take vengeance on them that obey not the Gospel! You may say; “Wait, isn’t  1 Corinthians 15:1-4 just a historical event!  How do I obey a historical event?”

Answer: Jesus does not ask us to die on the cross as he did for us.  He asks us to die to ourselves through repentance.  Turning from our will to His will.  He does not ask us to be buried in a grave as He was.  He asks us to be buried in like figure in the waters of baptism for the remission of sin.  Then He promises to fill us with His Spirit.  It is that same Spirit that raised up Jesus on the third day, that will also raise us to meet Him when He returns for His Church.

Peter confirmed this in that same book of Acts I told you about, where he said; “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call” (Acts 2:38).

Jesus Himself confirmed it in John 3:5 where He said; “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God”.

If the the assembly you attend does not preach repentance, then you are not in the company of the true Church. If the assembly you attend does not preach baptism in Jesus’ name of the remission of sin, then you are not in the presence of the true Church.  If the assembly you attend does not preach about the infilling of the Holy Spirit with the same evidence as found in the books of Acts, then you are not in the presence of the Church.

The true Church today is they same as it was on the day of Pentecost 2000 years ago.  Read the book of Acts and compare.  It is the true measure.

The Greatest War Ever Waged

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

©2012 Stan Hallett

greatest-warThe greatest war that was ever fought, or ever will be fought, having the greatest consequence, was not World War II that claimed somewhere between an estimated 40 and 72 million lives.

It won’t be the war that is yet to come that will claim one third of mankind. The greatest war that was ever waged, or ever will be waged where man is concerned, is the war that is waged in your mind.

It is a spiritual battleground where only you will be the victim or the victor, no one else. The consequences are greater than any mortal life can fathom, and they are eternal. The decision that you make, perhaps even this day, and the side you choose will determine your greatest joy, or your greatest torment for all of eternity.

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”  – Matthew 10:28

“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.” Luke 12:4,5

Every man and woman that has ever been killed in a war, even enduring great torment in their flesh, still can rise up unto eternal life, if they were right with God unto the death. That world war, that earthly battle, that bodily torment and death will just be a blink in time, something that will not matter in eternity.

The good news is you have control over the outcome.  You decide if you will win, or lose by the very choice that you make. You are either a slave to satan or a servant of God. There is no other choice, and no middle ground to be had. Many think they are neutral, but sadly, they have already made their choice.

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve.”  – Joshua 24:15

Obey the Gospel: Acts 2:38, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Who is a Liar?

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

©2011 Stan Hallett

falseministerIs a Pastor, a Priest, A Bishop, a Pope, an Evangelist, a Minister or some other who professes to be a man of God, that does not preach the true Gospel because of ignorance, a liar? The Word of God says that he is.

1 John 1:6 – If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.

1 John 1:4 – He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

The Bible is clear that ignorance of the truth is not a defense.  There is a great and grave responsibility placed upon any man that proclaims to speak for God. A man that proclaims a false doctrine, whether he knows it or not, does great harm to those that would hear and believe him.

Matthew 7:15 – Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Only the Gospel message found in the books of Acts is the true Gospel.

Acts 2:38 – “…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 – “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

That is the gospel. But how do we obey a historical event?  Simply He does not ask us to die a natural death, but rather to die to our will through repentance.  He does not ask us to be buried in a tomb, but rather we are buried with him in the waters of baptism, and in His Name (Matthew 28:19).  Then He promises that the same Spirit that raised Him from the grave will also raise our mortal bodies when He comes to take us Home.

Galatians 1:8 says;  “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

Revelations 2:2 – “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars.

Revelations 21:8 – “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Any man that preaches that all you have to do to be saved is to “accept Jesus as your personal savior” or just pray some “sinners prayer” to be saved is a liar.  He will have his part in the lake of fire except he repent.  If you then believe him you will have you part in the lake of fire as well, except you repent and obey the Gospel.

The Gospel must be obeyed.  Do not believe the lie that obedience is a work, saying that we are saved by grace and not by works.

1 Peter 4:17,18 – For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18  And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

2 Thessalonians 1:7,8 – “…the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:”

Offended Friends & Embarrassed Family

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

©2011 Stan Hallett

Embarrassed FamilyI have occasionally considered quitting Facebook (I actually did in 2012).  I happened to mention this to a family member recently to which they replied; “Great, I won’t have to read your posts anymore”. When I asked why they had made such a statement they told me that they did not agree with my telling people that they were wrong when it came to what they believed about salvation.

They went on to say that they felt that I would not win anyone that way and that it is better just to be an example to people, and that people would become interested because how they see me live my life. That’s not word for word, but pretty close.

So how should we as Christians live?  Should we just be a quiet example so that we don’t offend people and embarrass family?  I was asked how that was working for me?  Had I won anyone by this method?  The answer is, yes I have actually.

We need to speak the truth in love, and we need to preach the Gospel.  The Word of God is clear that one may plant, another may water, but it’s God that gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6,7).  We may not always see the fruit of our labor, but we still need to do the work that we were called to do. I guess I would like to ask the question back; How many have you won by just being a quiet example?  No answer is required, I already know. Satan would love to silence those that would preach the truth.

The world in general, and many of our unsaved friends and family and others would like us to; “Just be a quiet example.” . . . “Don’t profess something contrary to what I believe” . . . “Don’t embarrass me!” Did John the Baptist live a quiet example?  Did Jesus just live a quiet example?  Did the Apostle Paul just live a quite example?  Did the early Church just live a quiet example?  No, they didn’t!

I am not mean to people.  I do not call people names.  I don’t even like debate.  We don’t need to defend the gospel, but we are to contend for the gospel. So I will continue to preach the truth and the gospel to anyone that will listen. Charles Spurgeon once said; “Defend the Bible? I would as soon defend a lion!” You don’t need to defend a lion, you just turn it loose and it will defend itself.

If someone believes a false gospel and is not saved, I’m going to tell them, and use Bible to back up every word I say. Listen, it would be easier for me to just go along with the program and itch their ears and tell them how wonderful they are and agree with their false salvation doctrine.  Think of the friends I could have! So what on earth would motivate me to do something that many find offensive or embarrassing?  Simple. . . souls! I want to see people saved, regardless of what they think of me.

Listen my friends, the Bible does not contradict the Bible.  All of the Word of God is in agreement. If you find something in the Word of God that you think contradicts another scripture, then you do not understand that scripture. Jesus said; “Except an man be born or the water and of the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (John 3:3-5). The Bible says that baptism saves us (1 Peter 3:21)! The Bible says that everyone was baptized in Jesus’ name, not in the titles of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. They obeyed the command and didn’t just repeat it. If you think thats just semantics then we need to talk.

If I wrote you a check and signed it father, or son, or brother, or grandson, or husband, do you think that you could cash it?  Those are just titles, or roles of relationship that I hold or have held. They are not my name.  Matthew 28:19 says to baptize in the NAME (singular) of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  Look at every account that follows in the book of Acts.  The Apostles knew what that name was, and they baptized in Jesus’ name!

The Bible says that the Gospel must be obeyed or face the judgement (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).  That would contradict this false gospel that says that our obedience is a work.  Obedience is not a work! What is the gospel? Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Thats the gospel, the good news, that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day.

2 Thessalonians 1:8 says that we will face a terrible judgement if we do not obey the gospel. Question: How do we obey what appears to be a historical event?  I’m glad I asked that question! Repentance (death to ourselves), Baptized in His Name, which is to be buried with Him (Romans 6:3-11), then God promises to fill us with His Spirit (Acts 2:38).  It is this same Spirit that raised up Jesus on the third day and will likewise raise us up when He returns to take up His Church. Death, Burial, Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) = Repentance, Baptism, Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38). “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism” (Ephesians 4:5).  One Salvation, Hallelujah! Come on friends.  Check it out!  Stop believing the lie!  I don’t mean to be offensive, I’m just telling you the truth!

Most of what the world calls Orthodox Christianity is a lie and part of the  broad way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:13-14).

Obeyed not Accepted

Ephesians 4:5 states that there is but “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism”.

There is only ONE plan of Salvation! Nowhere in God’s Word does it even suggest that we merely “accept” Jesus as our “personal Savior” we are saved. Of a truth it is not we who accept Him, but it is He who accepts us.

We are commanded to OBEY the Gospel (Acts 2:38, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). The Gospel or the Good News is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose He again on the third day.

He does not ask us to obey by dying a physical death, but rather we die to ourselves through repentance, which simply means to turn from our will and do His will.

He does not ask us to be buried in a tomb as He was, but rather we in like figure are buried with Him in the waters of baptism in His name (1 Peter 3:20,21).

Then He has promised the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is this same Spirit that rose Jesus from the grave that will also raise our mortal bodies when he returns for His Church. Without it no man can be saved (John 3:3, 3:5).

The Greatest Lie Ever Told

Saturday, October 21st, 1995

©1995 Stan Hallett

Who could tell the greatest lie? The answer is simple, the father of all lies who is none other than satan himself (John 8:44). What would one consider a perfect crime? Would it not be a crime where any evidence to the contrary would be hidden or could not be found? A perfect lie is one that is so near the truth that the person being deceived actually believes that have obtained what it is that the liar does not want them to have.

He starts out by telling them that the Christianity stuff isn’t for them, and it works most of the time. But when they insist he tricks them into accepting a placebo Christianity, and a false form of Godliness. The apostle Paul talks about this in 2 Timothy 3:1-7 where he says:

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Most “Christians” today have a form of Godliness but deny the power thereof. These are ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of truth. The deceived person believes that they in fact have obtained their salvation.

Slick sales people try to do this all the time. They try to convince you that what they are selling you is the best buy for your money. It’s the genuine article, it’s the best there is. They have the best deal for you. We see this everyday.

At one time or another we’ve all been taken by the con-artist, the liar and the thief. How much better is the master of liars, the master of con-men and the master of thieves?

You may say “how could he be able to do this”? Surely you’d recognize satan and his lies. But the Bible says that satan can appear as angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Further it says in the very next verse: “it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness”. That’s right! There are men appearing as great men of God preaching to great crowds that they gather unto themselves. They are ministers of satan sent to deceive the masses. Indeed the masses are being deceived!

What is this greatest lie ever told? What is this great deception that is being preached by ministers of satan that are posing as great men of God across this country and the world? What is this lie that has deceived millions into believing that they are saved? The lie is the one that says that all you have to do is: “accept Jesus as your personal savior and you are saved” (Orthodox Christianity).

There are slightly different versions and variations of the lie such as saying a little prayer, or asking forgiveness for all your sins, or a prayer of repentance along with accepting Jesus as your savior, but they are all lies, all deception and all part of the greatest lie that satan ever told.

You may say; “Wait a minute, isn’t this in the Bible?” . . . Nope, not there. There is not one word in God’s Word that says that all you have to do is accept Jesus as your personal savior and you are then eternally saved. There is not one word that says “simply say a little prayer and perhaps ask for forgiveness, or a prayer of repentance and you are saved”. There is not one single verse that says that “if you believe in Jesus Christ you ARE saved”. . . not one.

So where did this come from? It came from satan influenced twisting of scripture, and adding and taking away from the Word of God. We’ve all heard how a little sugar helps the medicine go down? A little truth makes deception acceptable.

Here are some of the popular verses that you might be quoted that are in the Bible that satan tries to use to get you to swallow his lie:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

They use this scripture to say that you just believe in Jesus you’ll be saved. The devil takes this one scripture, twists it and makes a doctrine out of it. What this verse is saying is that if you believe in him, in other words believe that he is Lord and Savior then you will obey the Word of the Lord and be saved. If you indeed believe that He is Lord and Savior then you should not perish but act on what you believe and obey the gospel and be saved.

Jesus never said all you have to do to be saved is just believe in me. What He did say is “except a man be born or water and of Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). What He did say was “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:14)

But wait, there’s another scripture that says; “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).

This may seemingly give credence to the belief that “if you’ll just receive Jesus as your personal savior, you’ll be saved”. But that’s not what it says at all! What it says is that IF you receive Him as your Lord and Savior then you have the power to BECOME the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. It does not say if you believe in him you ARE saved, but that IF you believe on Him and IF you receive Him as your LORD and SAVIOR then indeed you HAVE the power to BECOME the sons of God and be saved.

Satan twists the meaning of Ephesians 2:8-9 which says: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” He tries to get this to mean that we do not have to do anything including obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be saved. This doctrine claims that obeying John 3:5 or Acts 2:38, or any other scripture is a work and not required to be saved.

Yes, it is true that Jesus paid it all on the cross. It is true that we cannot earn our own salvation by doing good works or any other means. But obeying the Gospel of Jesus Christ is NOT a work, it is obedience. Neither can you earn it by obedience, but only through obedience to the Gospel are you saved.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 says; “…when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

If indeed obedience to the Gospel is a work, if true repentance is a work, if being baptized in His name is a work and not necessary for salvation, then indeed praying the “sinners prayer” or “accepting Jesus as your personal savior” is also a work and not needed by the premise of this very same doctrine.

No, we cannot earn salvation. We are not worthy of it no matter what we do. It is indeed by grace we are saved and not of ourselves lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:9).

However, if we truly accept Him as Lord and Savior then being our Lord means that we are to be obedient to Him. If we are not obedient to Him then we are saying He is not our Lord thus we have NOT accepted Him as Lord and Savior, and we are liars.

Faith Without Works is Dead

The Bible says that Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, and God saved him and his family from the flood.  However if Noah didn’t have faith that God’s Word was true, and he wasn’t obedient and went and built that ark, Noah would have perished in that great flood like everyone else.

James said, “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:14-16).

Salvation IS a free gift, you don’t deserve it, and you cannot earn it.  But you must obey the Gospel to obtain it.  As Peter said on the day of Pentecost two-thousand years ago, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). That is the Gospel! This is the act of obedience that saves us!

Read on. . .  Peter continues in his plea in verse 40 for them to save themselves. Then it goes on to say in verse 41 that about three thousand souls were added that day.  Added to what?  The Church!  This was the beginning of the Church and obeying Acts 2:38 was how you were added.

We repent which means we truly turn from our ways to God’s way.  We are baptized in Jesus name, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 5:12). Then He promises to fills us with His Spirit (the gift of the Holy Ghost) just as he did on the day of Pentecost, which is still being poured out today!

Most “Christians” today want the Savior part, but do not want a Lord. They want the benefit, but not what they consider to be the price that comes with it. They want to be saved, but still do as they please. They want to be assured they are going to heaven, and still enjoy the pleasures of this world. Satan gives them exactly what they want. . . at least they think that they have it. They’ve been duped by the greatest lie ever told!

You are either a slave to satan or a servant of Jesus, there is no in-between, and no middle ground. You are either obedient or disobedient, you are either saved or lost.

Salvation In A Nutshell

Friday, October 20th, 1995
©1995 Stan Hallett

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared FOR THEM THAT LOVE HIM” – II Corinthians 2:9

Note that they are “prepared for them that LOVE HIM“.

Jesus said; “IF YE LOVE ME, keep my commandments.” – John 14:15

COMMANDMENT:

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” – Matthew 28:19. Notice that the word NAME is singular . . . one name. The words Father, Son and Holy Ghost are titles, not names.

Also notice that Jesus said; “GO“. He didn’t say it “would be nice if you did”, or “you might think about it”. It was a direction, a commandment to GO do it.

EXPLANATION on HOW to OBEY (What is the NAME?):

Peter was given the keys of the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 16:19). Many people picture Peter at heavens gate because of this. But these were not physical keys! Peter shared these same keys with us. . .In Acts 2:37 They asked the Apostles what they should do, and Peter said: “REPENT, and be BAPTIZED every one of you in the NAME of JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins, and ye shall RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST.” – Acts 2:38

What is the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost? Peter knew, and the other Apostles standing there with him knew. This NAME is JESUS!

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were BAPTIZED into JESUS Christ were baptized into his death?” – Romans 6:3

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the NAME of the Lord JESUS..” – Colossians 3:17

What happens if you do not OBEY? – “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” – II Thessalonians 1:7-9

Don’t fall for the lie that you need not obey or do anything to be saved because some doctrine has labeled them “works”. Salvation IS a gift. We do NOTdeserve it and CANNOT EARN it through “works of righteousness” (Titus 3:5).

Works of righteousness are feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, etc., etc. You cannot earn salvation by doing good works.

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” – James 2:17-26

Obedience to God’s word is a requirement! If you do not OBEY His commandments you are none of His.

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the WILL of my Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 7:21

Believing IN the Lord is NOT enough . . . “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” – James 2:19

We however, should believe ON Him (John 1:12, John 6:29, John 7:39, John 9:35, John 9:36, John 11:48, John 17:20, Acts 16:31, Acts 19:4, Romans 14:24, Philippians 1:29, 1 Timothy 1:16, 1 John 3:23, 1 John 5:3). To believe ON Him is to put ALL your trust in HIM and to Let Him be the Lord over your life. For if He is truly our LORD and Saviour we should OBEY Him and put all of our trust in Him.

How Can I Be Saved?

Many today are searching for answers, they are looking for the truth, and “Orthodox Christianity” gives them a lie.  They ask the same question in many different ways such as; “How can I be saved?”, or “What can I do to be saved?”,  or “How can I be sure I am saved?”, or “Can I be saved?”, or “How can you be saved?”, or “How to be saved?” or “How can I get saved?”, or “How can I be saved by God?”, or “Can God save me?”, or “How can I be saved by Jesus?”, or “Can Jesus saved me?”.

Most “Christian Pastors” would tell you that you merely need to “accept Jesus as your personal savior”, or simply “believe on Him”. They might have you say a little prayer or repentance, asking forgiving and for God to come into your heart. This is all a watered-down, no effect Gospel.  It’s a lie of the enemy to get you to believe that you have what it is you seek, but do not.

HOW CAN YOU BE SAVED? HERE ARE THE “KEYS”

REPENT of your sins. This means to earnestly turn away from all sin, asking His forgiveness. It does not mean to confess your sins then go right back to doing the things you’ve always done.”The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” – Psalms 51:17

BE BAPTIZED IN JESUS NAME

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a MAN be born AGAIN, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – John 3:3″Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a MAN be BORN OF WATER and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” – John 3:5

BORN OF WATER” is water baptism in JESUS NAME just as stated in Matthew 28:19 and Acts 2:38. It does not mean natural child birth as some foolish people suggest. Note that he says ” Except a MAN“, He is talking about a man, not a baby. Then He says “born AGAIN” (a second time).

“…while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us. . .” I Peter 3:20,21

“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” – Mark 16:16

Matthew 28:19 says that we should be baptized in the NAME of the FATHER, and of the SON, and of the HOLY GHOST. We need to be baptized by someone who knows what the NAME is and not just repeat what was said.  You you read the book of Acts which is the Acts or Historical account of the early Church, they knew exactly what the NAME (singular) of the FATHER, and of the SON, and of the HOLY GHOST was.  That NAME is JESUS!

No one was ever baptized in the titles of FATHER, SON and HOLY GHOST in the Bible, only in JESUS, NAME.  The Word of God says it is the NAME that is above every name (Philippians 2:9).  It says that at the NAME of JESUS every knee shall bow (Philippians 2:10).  It says that whatever you do in word or deed, do in the NAME of the LORD JESUS (Colossians 3:17).

BE FILLED WITH the HOLY GHOST.

This is being born “of the Spirit”. There is a marvelous evidence of this infilling of the Holy Ghost. Read of the accounts in the book of Acts. It’s happening that same today as it did then. Don’t let anyone fool you and cheat you out of your salvation at any cost.”And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” – Acts 2:4

“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.” – Acts 2:39

“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” – Luke 11:9-13

“Let God be true, but every man a liar” – Romans 3:4
